Learn how to install an authenticator app to use with multi-factor authentication (MFA).

An authenticator app generates a secure, time-based code on your phone that you’ll use when logging in to your account.

If you plan to use mobile app authentication, you’ll need to install such an app first.

Why use an authenticator app?

Using an authenticator app adds an extra layer of protection to your account.

  • It generates a unique code that changes every few seconds
  • You enter this code when logging in, along with your password

This means:

  • Even if someone knows your password, they cannot access your account without your device
  • Your account is significantly more secure

You can also use the same app to manage login codes for multiple services.

Choose an authenticator app

If you’ve used MFA with other platforms, you may already have an authenticator app installed.

Common options include:

  • Google Authenticator
  • Microsoft Authenticator
  • Authy

You can use any app that supports time-based one-time passwords (TOTP).

Pro tip

Choose a trusted app from a reputable developer, as it plays an important role in your account security.

Install the app

To install an authenticator app:

  1. Open your phone’s app store (Apple App Store or Google Play)
  2. Search for “Authenticator”
  3. Select an app and install it
  4. Open the app and follow the setup instructions

Once your app is installed, you can connect the authenticator app to your account.
