Applies to: WebinarJam
To host a smooth live webinar with WebinarJam, having the right equipment, internet connection, and browser settings helps avoid performance issues such as choppy video, dropped audio, or connection interruptions for you and your co-presenters.
This article explains recommended hardware and connectivity best practices so you can deliver a professional and reliable experience.
Recommended Equipment
Use the following hardware to support high-quality audio and video during your live broadcast:
- Computer: A modern machine with at least a quad-core processor and 8 GB of RAM is recommended.
- Camera:Both built-in and external cameras are supported
- Aim for at least 720p (1280×720) resolution. WebinarJam supports up to 1080p (1920×1080).
- Microphone: Built-in mics are acceptable, but external USB microphones generally deliver clearer audio.
- Headphones: Using headphones helps prevent audio feedback and echo when you are presenting.
Internet Connection Best Practices
A stable and sufficient internet connection is critical for live streaming quality:
- Hardwired connection: Whenever possible, use a wired Ethernet connection instead of Wi-Fi to reduce latency and packet loss.
- Test your internet quality:Use a connection test tool (such as Waveform) to check upload and download speeds and latency. For reliable streaming:
- Upload and download speeds of at least 5 Mbps or higher are recommended.
- Aim for lower latency (e.g., bufferbloat in the “B” range or better).
- Minimize network load: During your webinar, pause or stop other high-bandwidth activity (such as video streaming or gaming) on the same network to preserve bandwidth for your broadcast.
- Close unnecessary apps: Close any applications or background processes not required for your webinar to free up system and network resources.
- Avoid dual roles: Do not host the webinar (upload stream) and attend the same session (download stream) on the same connection, as this can negatively impact stream quality.
Browser and System Preparations
Your browser and device setup influence performance and compatibility:
- Recommended browser: Use Google Chrome for the best compatibility with WebinarJam.
- Other good options: Firefox generally performs well; on iOS devices, Safari is acceptable.
- Keep software updated: Before your event, update your browser to the latest version.
- Clear cache and cookies: This can help resolve issues caused by stale data.
- Restart your computer: Rebooting before a session ensures you start with a fresh system state.
